Morska groznica
“Ja moram opet k moru poć, k samotnom nebu i vodi,
i hoću samo velik brod i zvijezdu, što ga vodi.”

John Masefield Morska grozinca (1902)
Ja moram opet na more poći, na more pusto ispod neba,
I treba mi samo vitak brod, i zvijezda-orijentir mi treba,
I otpor kormila, i pjesma vjetra, i drhtanje jedara,
I siva zora, u kojoj se magla na licu mora stvara.
Ja moram opet na more poći, odazvat se zovu plime,
Jer to je divlji zov, i jasan zov, i moram poći za njime;
I treba mi samo vjetrovit dan, i oblaci, i vidici
Od morske pjene i valova; trebaju mi galeblji krici.
Ja moram opet na more poći, u nemire pustolova,
Gdje vjetar je oštar nož, gdje slijediš kita, skitnju galebova;
I trebam samo družbu mornara, i vedre glasove njene,
I miran san, slatke sne, a poslije svoje kormilarske smjene.

Sea Fever; John Masefield
I must go down to the seas again, to the lonely sea and the sky,
And all I ask is a tall ship and a star to steer her by,
And the wheel’s kick and the wind’s song and the white sail’s shaking,
And a grey mist on the sea’s face, and a gray dawn breaking.
I must go down to the seas again, for the call of the running tide
Is a wild call and a clear call that may not be denied;
And all I ask is a windy day with the white clouds flying,
And the flung spray and the blown spume, and the sea gulls crying.
I must go down to the seas again, to the vagrant gypsy life,
To the gull’s way and the whale’s way where the wind’s like a whetted knife;
And all I ask is a merry yarn from a laughing fellow rover,
And quiet sleep and a sweet dream when the long trick’s over.
